Whirlybird Installation · Auburn
Auburn's Victorian-era and Edwardian homes were built long before roof ventilation was standard, leaving original roof cavities with no way for summer heat and moisture to escape, an issue that matters more on homes with original terracotta or slate where trapped moisture can affect timber battens and rafters over time. A whirlybird uses wind and rising heat to continuously draw that air out, cutting ceiling heat load in the house below and reducing moisture build-up. It's a straightforward retrofit on original terracotta, slate or later concrete tile roofs across the suburb.
Auburn's period homes with original terracotta or slate often have no built-in ventilation at all, making a whirlybird a bigger practical upgrade here than on a newer, already-ventilated roof.
Local roof weather
Auburn sees around ~6 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
