Whirlybird Installation · Braeside
Braeside's original 1950s and 1960s homes were built well before modern roof ventilation became standard, so the roof cavity above the ceiling often traps summer heat with nowhere to go. A whirlybird uses wind movement and rising heat to continuously draw that hot, stale air out, easing the load on ceilings and any air conditioning below. On the concrete-tile roofs common here we lift a course of tiles, cut a clean penetration, bed the flashing so it stays watertight, and seat the turbine securely. For homes closer to Braeside Park's tree cover, the extra ventilation also helps clear trapped moisture that can otherwise sit in the roof space.
Braeside's older, unventilated roof cavities heat up hard through summer, and on the shadier blocks near Braeside Park a whirlybird also helps shift the trapped moisture that builds up under heavier tree cover.
Local roof weather
Braeside sees around ~6 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
