Whirlybird Installation · Burnside Heights
Burnside Heights' brick veneer homes were built with minimal roof ventilation, and with no established tree canopy to shade the estate's open streets, the roof cavity above the ceiling can heat up significantly on a sunny day and hold that heat well into the evening. A whirlybird uses wind movement and the natural rise of hot air to continuously exhaust that cavity, cutting the heat load pushing down into the rooms below. On the concrete-tile roofs common here, we lift the tile course, cut a clean penetration, bed the flashing watertight and seat the turbine so it performs properly from day one rather than just looking the part.
With no established tree cover across Burnside Heights' estate streets, roof cavities take on a lot of direct summer heat, so the case for a whirlybird here is mainly about cutting that heat load rather than managing trapped moisture.
Local roof weather
Burnside Heights sees around ~6 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
