Whirlybird Installation · Eltham
Eltham's established homes — many with large, timber-framed roof cavities — trap summer heat that radiates down into the rooms, and in this damp, shaded suburb they also collect winter moisture that condenses in the cavity and feeds mould. Whirlybirds vent both. On tile roofs we lift the tile course, cut a clean penetration, bed the flashing watertight and seat the turbine; on the Colorbond roofs of newer architectural homes the vent is flashed into the sheeting. In Eltham's leafy, damp climate the winter side of ventilation matters as much as the summer heat — clearing the moist air protects the roof timbers and insulation year-round.
Eltham's damp, shaded setting makes winter cavity moisture a real issue, so venting the roof here protects the timbers from condensation and mould as much as it eases the summer heat.
Local roof weather
Eltham sees around ~6 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
