Whirlybird Installation · Hopetoun Park
Hopetoun Park's newer homes are built with open, low-canopy blocks and full sun exposure across most of the roof, so even with modern construction the cavity above the ceiling can build up significant heat on a hot day and hold it well into the evening. A whirlybird continuously exhausts that hot air using wind and convection, and in an exposed growth-corridor suburb like this one, with reliably open wind flow across the roof, the turbines work efficiently for most of the year. The drier local climate means less concern about trapped winter moisture than in wetter parts of Melbourne, but the summer heat-load case for ventilation is a strong one on a roof with this much direct sun. We fit the turbine cleanly into the concrete tile or colorbond sheeting and flash it fully weatherproof.
With little tree cover and full sun exposure across most rooflines, Hopetoun Park homes build up real heat load in the roof cavity on hot days — a whirlybird continuously vents that heat using the same open wind exposure that defines the suburb.
Local roof weather
Hopetoun Park sees around ~7 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
