Whirlybird Installation · Hoppers Crossing
Hoppers Crossing's brick veneer homes from the 1970s to 1990s were mostly built with no roof ventilation at all, and the suburb's drier, more exposed conditions mean the roof cavity heats up quickly on sunny days with nowhere for that hot air to go. It radiates straight back down into the ceiling and pushes up cooling costs through summer. A whirlybird continuously exhausts that trapped air using wind and rising heat alone, no power required. We lift the tile course, cut a clean penetration, flash it watertight for concrete tile or colorbond metal, and size the turbine count to the roof rather than fitting a standard number.
Hoppers Crossing's drier, more exposed climate means heat build-up in the ceiling cavity is the bigger issue on most homes here, rather than the moisture problems more common in shadier, damper suburbs.
Local roof weather
Hoppers Crossing sees around ~5 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
