Whirlybird Installation · Ivanhoe
Ivanhoe's period homes often have large, timber-framed roof cavities that hold summer heat well into the evening, and in this shaded, leafy suburb they also collect winter moisture that condenses in the roof. Whirlybirds vent both. On a period streetscape we place the turbines discreetly and, on the terracotta and slate roofs common here, flash them in carefully so the install is weatherproof and sympathetic to the roof. On the concrete-tile homes it's a straightforward tile install. Venting the cavity eases the summer heat that radiates into the rooms below, and clears the winter damp that would otherwise feed mould in the old timbers.
Ivanhoe's damp, shaded canopy makes winter cavity moisture a real issue for its old timber-framed roofs, so venting protects the structure from condensation as much as it eases summer heat.
Local roof weather
Ivanhoe sees around ~6 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
