Whirlybird Installation · Preston
Preston's older homes — period weatherboards and post-war brick alike — were built with little more than a couple of passive vents, so the roof cavity traps heat in summer and damp air in winter. Whirlybirds vent that air out. Because Preston roofs are mostly tile, we install by lifting the tile course at the vent position, cutting a clean penetration, bedding the flashing so it is watertight, then seating the turbine and reinstating the tiles over the apron. On the period homes with timber-framed cut roofs the cavity holds heat longer into the evening, so venting makes a real difference to sleeping comfort upstairs — and in winter it clears the moisture that would otherwise condense in the roof.
Many of Preston's period homes have traditional timber-framed roofs with a large cavity that stays warm well into the evening, so drawing that heat out with a couple of turbines noticeably improves comfort on a hot night.
Local roof weather
Preston sees around ~7 days above 35°C a year, and on those days an unventilated roof cavity turns into a heat store right above your ceilings.

The process
We look at roof size, pitch and existing airflow to work out how many vents you actually need — no over-selling.
Vents go high on the roof where the hottest air collects, balanced with the eave intake so air can actually move through.
On a tiled roof we lift the tiles, cut a neat penetration, and bed the flashing so it is fully weatherproof.
The turbine is seated in the flashing collar and the tiles are reinstated over the apron, leaving a clean, leak-free finish.
Installation differs by roof: on tiled roofs we cut and flash the penetration under the tile course, while on metal roofs the vent is flashed directly into the sheeting. Both need the flashing done properly — a rushed vent install is a classic future leak.
Installations are carried out by an insured team and the workmanship is backed by a 7-Year Workmanship Guarantee and a 10-Year Dulux Acratex Material Warranty.
